Beekman Cares about Quality Palliative Care

The Beekman Group is one of South Africa’s leading corporate players in the development and management of property and in the leisure sector. With 34 years of experience in the industry comes an equal amount of years in social awareness to the community.

When South Coast Hospice, leaders in Quality Palliative Care for 30 years in the community and the greater UGU Health District, caring for patients with diseases such as Cancer, HIV / AIDS, MDR-TB and Motor Neuron disease, wrote to the Group for some much needed assistance, the CSI division reacted quickly and with passion to ensure our needs were met.

We rely heavily on our community, which are most generous in their donations and, businesses and corporates such as Beekman for our sustainability in providing the essential health care our Urban and Rural Home-based care patients require.

With the funding provided, we were able to add value to our 8-bedded In-patient Unit, Kingfisher House which saw 211 patients in the last financial year, by upgrading the ‘quiet lounge’ used by patients’ families. We were also able to purchase a microwave for the Day Care Centre kitchen which sees support groups, remembrance gatherings and volunteer meetings weekly as well as an allocation for funding towards food parcels and medical care expenses for the year. Out of the groups donation we were able to purchase computers for the upliftment of the Training Academy division, which in the last financial year graduated 285 students and offered 139 in-service training opportunities. Courses include HIV Counselling, Introduction to Palliative Care, Bereavement Counselling and Home-based Care courses.

South Coast Hospice is ever grateful for the support and consideration from the Beekman Group and appreciate their commitment in aiding us.
